After Winning 'RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars,' Jimbo Wants To Buy Even Bigger Fake Boobs all-available

ICYMI, the latest queen to enter the RuPaul’s Drag Race winners circle is Jimbo. After falling short on Canada’s Drag Race Season 1 and UK vs the World, the Canadian drag clown returned to All Stars 8 in search of a crown. All season she’s been wowing the judges, racking up win after win on a long journey to cement herself as Drag Race royalty. From impersonating Joan Rivers and Shirley Temple, to fashion forward (and one week backward) runway looks, Jimbo set herself apart from her American competitors, watching them exit one by one. In the end, only Jimbo and Kandy Muse remained in the running for the coveted spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame and the cash prize of $200,000.

While Jimbo and Kandy had known they’d made it to the finale for months, the pair found out who won last week with the rest of us. Jimbo, overwhelmed with emotions, nearly hyperventilated while watching her crowning. Now the newly minted winner will be hosting her own show, It’s My Special Show on WOW Presents Plus and headlining a drag tour. Before she could zip away to begin her reign, however, Jimbo sat down with Parade to discuss the highs and lows of the season, and how it feels to be a winner!

Matthew Huff: So obviously you have known that you’ve been in the top two for quite a while but you didn’t know if you won until the finale. Can you walk me through what was going through your head for this entire last year?

Jimbo: Oh, it is so exciting. It’s kind of like the night before Christmas, but for a whole year. I knew that my performances had gone well, and I had received some really great feedback, but I was really curious to see how it would translate to the show as we saw it air. I was a little bit shaky on my thinking and it was going to be a lip sync for the crown, so it could have gone either way. And I was there with Kandy in New York for the reaction, and I was about to pass out. I was hyperventilating watching the episode. I was so nervous.

I’m sure you’ve lived through that moment a million times in your head. What was it like to actually live through winning?

It was crazy. I tried not to picture it, because I didn’t want to jinx it, and I also didn’t want to get my hopes up. On my other two seasons, I was really a little bit more confident going in, and then this season I thought, I’m just going to go and have a good time. I’m not going to be focused on this crown or whatever. That’s what I said, ‘I didn’t come to race, I came to cruise.’

Which parts of the season were you most excited to watch on screen or for fans to get to see?

I was most excited for the Snatch Game performance. Being a character and doing improv is so exciting to me, and specifically to play the Snatch Game with Mama Ru. I played with Brooke Lynn Hytes on Canada’s Drag Race and on UK vs. the World, I was eliminated right before the Snatch Game. So this was this dream of mine to play Snatch Game with Ru and to make her laugh. I just did that manic tap dance and was just absolutely blown away when it went viral.

How did you decide on impersonating Shirley Temple for the Snatch Game and what preparation went into it?

When I was doing UK vs the World, people would ask me who I was going to do and when I would tell them Bobcat Goldthwait, people didn’t know who I was talking about. So I thought, I have to pick someone that makes people excited right away. I thought if I pick Shirley Temple, immediately people know the reference, and it all of a sudden piques their curiosity. They’re like, OK, what’s this going to be like? That’s going to be weird. There’s something fascinating about an aging child star. And I love the movie What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? so there was definitely some influence of this aged Shirley Temple that had stayed so sweet and so precocious.

And I also wanted to play kind of a little rascal. There’s something so fun in being mischievous, especially when you’re playing the Snatch Game. So I thought Shirley Temple would be this great sort of meeting point for all these different physical choices.

Had you practiced the tap dancing before, or was that something that just happened while you were doing it?

No, basically, the shoes were normal shoes. And at the last minute I was thinking, like, what does Shirley do? I was like, oh, she tap dances. And so they had these can lids from the supermarket supermodel design challenge. And so right before the challenge, I said, I need those can lids. And they ran and got me these can lids, and I strapped them on my feet right before I went out, and just did that tap dance spontaneously.

So when you got the call to come back for this season, what were you were most looking forward to and what were you most nervous about?

Well, I was on tour right up until I went away, so I was really nervous about being prepared. I had to collaborate and coordinate with artists and designers around the world and have these things all shipped and coordinated while I was touring. That was all a huge challenge going into it. Just making sure that I felt as prepared to take the crown and go all the way. Because I knew between the runways and the lip sync and the characters I wanted to portray, that it took a huge amount of drag, and especially at the level where I want to be showcasing my legacy.

So one of the storylines this season was that you kept losing these lip syncs, and then finally you have your big moment with the “Freak-A-Zoid” lip sync where you’re in the costume with the bologna from UK vs the World. Had you planned to bring that look for a lip sync?

Basically I had just been on tour, and that costume was in my bag. And when I went away to drag race, I had planned lip sync looks that were a little bit more of a fashion take on drag. And after losing the first few lip syncs and realizing that, “OK, they don’t want to see me trying to lip sync and dance around in a pretty outfit. They want to see something unique that’s unique to me,” I thought, “What can I do?” I knew Mama Ru loved that talent show performance [from UK vs the World], so I thought I’ll make her laugh by bringing that character out. And I think it was one of the first times that someone performed on the main stage in a lip sync that way. And I happened to have some bologna that I had gotten earlier in the week, and it all came together.

At the final three, Kandy is in control, and she has to decide whether she’s going to send you or Jessica Wild home. How nerve wracking was that? What was going through your mind?

I was in shock. I really was riding high. I had not been in the bottom yet until that point, but I also knew there had been all kinds of shady conversations happening. At the end of the day, Kandy and I did have an alliance, so I was really relying on Kandy sticking to her word. But of course, it crossed my mind that she could take me out. I was big competition, and it’s a lot of money and a crown and a title. But I also know that she wanted to have some integrity in that moment and be true to her word.

Speaking of the money, do you have any fun plans of how to spend your prize or things you’re going to splurge on?

Well, I want to have my Tic Tac gold plated, for sure. I need that. Maybe get a grill? That might be kind of cool with diamonds. Madonna has one. I want to take my family on a trip, celebrate. I want to have a great big party. I love having parties and hosting parties. And then, I’m actually headed to China in September, and I’m going to the factory where my silicone body comes from. So I’m going to splurge on something custom there.

Well, that was going to be my last question. Every season the boobs get bigger, and I was wondering, have you reached the point where they can’t get any bigger, or are there bigger ones coming?

I’m literally headed to China to figure out what we can do next.
