Singer-songwriter Lily Allen gave her unfiltered opinion on some of the U.S.’s favorite foods, and there was one very popular snack that she was absolutely not a fan of.
During an interview with LADbible in a segment comparing U.K. and U.S. snacks, the English singer got a taste of a hot dog and couldn’t hide her disgust–and not just at the flavor.
The hot dog was supposed to be compared to a Greggs sausage roll, which is very popular in Britain. Allen attempted to take a bite of what she called a “really unappetizing-looking hot dog,” and immediately said, “Oh God, that’s horrible.”
She tried to eat the part of the bun she had in her mouth, commenting, “The texture of that is rank. That is a big fail.”
LADbible originally shared the video back in April, but a repost from the end of July got people talking about Allen’s reactions.
One person agreed with Allen’s response to the hot dog, commenting, “That is saddest hot dog I have ever seen I wouldn’t have even ate that smfh.”
Another argued that she didn’t get to try the best hot dogs on offer from the U.S., writing, “She should have had a chicago style hot dog, no offense new york but we win here in chi town.”
Others also wished Allen had tried a Chicago hot dog instead and questioned the condiment choices, as a different comment read, “I do have to say they have a SAD excuse for a hot dog, so that’s not really fair. And KETCHUP ON IT?! SERIOUSLY?! Give her a Chicago dog ffs.”
In general, Allen–who lives in America with her husband, Stranger Things‘ David Harbour–wasn’t a fan of the U.S. snacks, sticking with her U.K. favorites. The comments were filled with people agreeing and disagreeing with her, while others felt like the food chosen for each side weren’t comparable.
All in all, it’s clear that Allen will not be having a hot dog while out and about in the U.S. anytime soon.
